2012 "I'm Your Community Guide! Contest

Have you used the Guide to Community Preventive Services (Community Guide) to address public health challenges in your community?  If so, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) wants to hear from you! PHF invites you to share your experience by entering the "I'm Your Community Guide!" Contest. Your stories will help to identify model practices for implementing the evidence-based strategies outlined in the Community Guide. Submissions will be accepted until April 30, 2012. 6th Annual National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing, and Media

The National Public Health Information Coalition, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are pleased to announce the sixth annual National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing, and Media to be held August 7 -9, 2012 in Atlanta, GA.You are invited to submit abstracts and panel proposals for the 2012 National Conference on Health Communications, Marketing, and Media (NCHCMM). National Award for Smart Growth Achievement

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is pleased to announce that the application period for the 11th annual National Award for Smart Growth Achievement is now open. This competition is open to public- and private-sector entities that have successfully used smart growth principles to improve communities environmentally, socially, and economically. 2012 Call for APHA Awards Nominations

The American Public Health Association is now accepting nominations for its 2012 APHA Awards Program. Nominate a colleague who exemplifies outstanding professionalism and dedication, and has made extraordinary contributions to the field of public health.  Membership is not required for nomination to several of APHA's national awards.  Awards will be presented at the 140th APHA Annual Meeting and Exposition, Oct. 27-31 2012, in San Francisco. Journal of Aging Research

The Journal of Aging Reserach invites authors to submit original research and review articles that seek to improve the understanding of nutritional health inequity in older populations. Manuscripts that approach nutritional health at any ecological level from the individual to policy as well as those with application to community practice are eligible for submission. Also submissions from traditional nutrition-related researchers and practitioners as well as researchers from other fields, such as sociology, anthropology, and planning are invited to submit. The manuscript is due May 4. Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jar/guidelines/.

The Future of Public Health Award

The Public Health Foundation has launched a national award program to promote use of quality improvement (QI) to influence positive outcomes in so-called Winnable Battles.  "The Future of Public Health Award (FPHA) is a unique opportunity for state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments to receive onsite technical assistance to build capacity in QI and advance programs to improve outcomes in Winnable Battles. Award recipients will receive up to 3 days of on-site technical assistance and training from an expert in QI tools and methods, resource material on best-practices, and much more."  Applications for the 2012 awards are being accepted through March 16, 2012.
