SOPHE

The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), a Category B awarded national partner organization, leverages its assets to support ACHIEVE and CDC Healthy Communities efforts in effectively implementing policy, systems, and environmental changes in communities nationwide by:

  • Building leadership. Developing and coordinating the administration of an assessment tool that examines coalition capacity and helps guide training, support, and tool development and dissemination efforts.
  • Providing technical assistance. Developing tools such as fact sheets on coalitions, sustainability, and publishing.
  • Disseminating effective tools, resources, and community-based models. Includes leading the Translation and Dissemination Workgroup, whose purpose is to identify or develop support resources that are tailored to funded communities;  helping to develop a Sustainability Guide; and developing the Coaches and CHART self-assessment. Other dissemination activities include collaborating with CDC to publish a supplement issue of its’ journal Health Promotion Practice that highlights Healthy Communities programs.
  • Promoting electronic communications. Includes encouraging linkages with SOPHE Chapters, information sharing between ACHIEVE/Healthy Communities newsletters and SOPHE, and social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr). SOPHE also facilitates access to SOPHE member-only resources through complimentary memberships for ACHIEVE Coaches.  Through membership, ACHIEVE communities can access SOPHE e newsletters "News You Can Use," "News and Views," the twelve Communities of Practice groups and listservs, and SOPHE’s journals Health Promotion Practice and Health Education & Behavior.
  • Developing policy-related products. Includes SOPHE’s Chronic Disease Policy website and Health Education Advocate website where resources such as state policy experts, advocacy alerts, and webinars from SOPHE’s Advocacy Summit such as "Advocacy 101" can be accessed.
  • Creating training opportunities. SOPHE provides support to the annual ACHIEVE Coaches Meeting and ACTION Institutes as well as providing opportunities for ACHIEVE communities to participate in SOPHE’s midyear meeting, annual meeting, and both ACHIEVE-specific and general webinars. General training opportunities can also be accessed through SOPHE’s calendar of events where SOPHE chapters and other organizations often post their continuing education and meeting opportunities.
